Marine to beach transfer

This research project aims to examine the spatial extent to which marine-derived nutrients subsidise production in dune ecosystems of South-Western Australia, and which organisms are effective at moving those nutrients inland. The main focus is to investigate the role of predatory spiders, diptera and other macro-invertebrate fauna as transporters of marine resources from the ocean to land. The study area includes beaches in the metropolitan region and north of Perth and islands of the Stockholm Archipelago, where chironomids act as a vector transporting marine-derived nutrients inland.
