University Campus Healthy Food and Beverage Project

The research

The current Australian food environment has been described as obesogenic, displaying a high availability of unhealthy food and beverage options. Tertiary institutions are an ideal setting for health promotion interventions aimed at increasing the availability of healthy options.

Current projects

An investigation of the Healthy Food options, using a traffic light dashboard for food and beverage at ECU café outlets. A survey of food outlet owner/mangers’ perceptions and attitudes to increasing the healthy options at the University Campus outlets is included to enhance the availability of healthy options for staff and students. In 2016 all ECU Campus Food outlets were audited to inform the ECU Wellness Committee to support the development of health promotion interventions and campus policies.

Past projects

Campus Food Audits projects were undertaken in 2012 and 2014. Research was undertaken in collaboration with Western Australian School Canteen Association for Healthy Workplace WA.
