Co-lead, Exercise and Genitourinary Cancers Research Group

Professor Daniel Galvão is Director of the Exercise Medicine Research Institute at Edith Cowan University, Australia, and Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and Exercise and Sports Science Australia. Galvão’s research program developed and tested targeted exercise interventions to reverse treatment-related toxicities and improve patient outcomes that have changed the clinical management of cancer patients worldwide. His research support includes >$25 million in continuing external funding over the past 15 years from the NHMRC, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, Cancer Australia, Cancer Council Western Australia, and Movember Foundation.

Professor Galvão has published over 200 refereed journal papers in exercise medicine/oncology listed on Scopus and is an author of influential national and international guidelines for exercise in cancer patients including Exercise and Sports Science Australia (2009, 2019) and American College of Sports Medicine (2010, 2019). As a direct result, international clinical recommendations changed for individuals to avoid inactivity and return to normal activity as soon as possible after cancer diagnosis or treatment. Professor Galvão has served on numerous national research committees including NHMRC Grant review panels, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia Research Advisory Committee, and Cancer Council of Western Australia for over a decade.
