About

Welcome to 5th Annual Research Forum on Ageing - Dementia and Social Care for Diverse Communities

Dementia ranks among the top causes of death in Australia, imposing a substantial burden on caregivers. Insufficient comprehension of dementia and its impact often leads to community reluctance and uncertainty in discussing the issue. Consequently, those living with dementia and their family members may struggle to share their experiences with their social circles and the broader community.

Due to language barriers and lack of appropriate services, culturally and linguistically diverse Australians tend to access health care later than others, resulting in delayed diagnosis, higher risk of social isolation, and compromised health. They are also underrepresented in research. It is imperative to raise awareness about the diverse needs of people living with dementia and their families.

With an aim to promote social care for people living with dementia and their families in diverse communities, this year’s 5th Annual Research Forum on Ageing will focus on Dementia and Social Care for Diverse Communities.

The Forum brings together scholars, researchers, industry partners, government agencies, policy makers, community, non-government agencies, teachers, and students from across Australia who work with and for older people to explore:

  • Research and policy to support diverse communities and dementia care;
  • Interventions and services for social care in diverse communities; and
  • Opportunities and challenges for dementia and diversity futures.

Thank you for your engagement in supporting social care for dementia in diverse community. We wish you a stimulating day with lots of contributions and gains.
