2025 and 2026 ECU Master of Social Work (Qualifying) S10 Practicum Bursary

The bursary is to provide international students with a $3,000 allowance to support them with living costs while taking the practicum units Social Work Placement 1 (SWK6440) and Social Work Placement 2 (SWK6450).

Eligibility guidelines

To be eligible for this bursary you must:

  • be an international student (not an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or New Zealand Citizen) on a Subclass 500 International Student Visa;
  • be studying a Master of Social Work (Qualifying) S10 course on-campus for the first time, at ECU Joondalup Campus in Semester 2, 2025, or Semester 2, 2026;
  • not be in receipt of a government scholarship or industry sponsorship for your studies; and
  • enrolled in Social Work Placement 1 (SWK6440) in the second teaching period and Social Work Placement 2 (SWK6450) in the fourth teaching period.

Terms and conditions

  • The recipient must continue to meet the eligibility guidelines and these terms and conditions at the time of applying and throughout 2025 and 2026 (as applicable).
  • The recipient must be enrolled to study in 60 credit points each Semester or study period in 2025 or 2026 on ECU Joondalup Campus and remain enrolled in 60 credit points post census date.
  • ECU is open to prospective international students including ECU Alumni, who have completed their original degree and received an offer to enrol in Semester 2, 2025 or Semester 2, 2026 into the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) S10.
  • ECU may, in its absolute discretion, cancel the bursary if the recipient does not enrol in their units of study or pay their tuition fees by the relevant date(s) published by ECU and pursuant to ECU’s relevant policies.
  • The recipient may become ineligible for the bursary if they receive a government scholarship or industry sponsorship or another grant during the term of the bursary.
  • The recipient must comply with ECU’s statutes, rules, by-laws, policies, procedures, or other similar instruments, and with all applicable visa requirements.
  • The recipient agrees to promptly notify ECU of any change of circumstances that my affect their ongoing eligibility.
  • The bursary includes a $1,500 payment to their nominated Australian bank account post census date of the second teaching period (i.e. the second semester of the course) provided the student remains enrolled in Social Work  Placement 1 (SWK6440) post census date and a subsequent $1,500 payment to their nominated Australian bank account post census date of the fourth teaching period (i.e. the fourth semester of the course) provided the student remains enrolled in Social Work Placement 2 (SWK6450) post census date.
  • The student will be required to reimburse ECU for any unused portion of the bursary, if the student becomes ineligible, or if the bursary is otherwise cancelled in accordance with these terms.
  • The bursary cannot be transferred to any other ECU course, campus or partner, or to another university.
  • The bursary can be revoked if the recipient does not accept their Letter of Offer or enrol in their course by the date specified.
  • The recipient must comply with any applicable visa requirements.
  • The recipient is ineligible if they have received any other bursaries from ECU for their studies.
  • The recipient must pay their tuition fees within the stipulated payment deadlines, failure to do so may negate the bursary.

All bursaries are awarded at ECU’s absolute discretion. ECU reserves the right to revoke the bursary at any stage if a student is found to have provided information that is false or misleading, does not meet the bursary eligibility criteria (including ECU’s standard and specific admission requirements), or the recipient does not comply with the conditions of the bursary. In these circumstances, ECU may require any amounts paid to the recipient to be refunded to ECU.

ECU reserves the right to decline to award bursaries if, in its opinion, there are no suitable applicants. The number of bursaries to be awarded shall be at ECU’s sole discretion. This bursary may be withdrawn from offering by ECU at any time
without notice.

How to apply

Application is not required. Eligibility is automatically assessed post census date of the second and fourth teaching period.
