This unique partnership provides access to rich, real world data to support meaningful, community focused research. The scholarship package includes:
- Tuition fee sponsorship.
- Base stipend of AUD $37,500 per year (indexed).
- Top up scholarship of AUD $10,000 per year (non indexed).
- AUD $5,000 subscription to support access to ORIGINS Cohort data.
- Additional allowances, such as relocation support for domestic students; partial reimbursement of visa application fees and single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for eligible international students.
Scholarships are available for up to 3 years full time for a PhD or 6 years pro-rata if undertaking an eligible PhD part-time.
This scholarship supports research that advances the health and wellbeing of children and young people aged 0 to 24 years. In alignment with the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY), we adopt The Nest framework to define health holistically.
Eligibility guidelines
To be eligible, you must:
- Undertake research within Childhood Health, adopting The Nest framework to define health holistically. This includes physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of wellbeing, recognising the interconnected factors that contribute to thriving across the life course.
- Plan to conduct your research in collaboration with, and using data from, the ORIGINS Cohort study.
- Hold an admission offer for a PhD or Integrated PhD at ECU.
Selection criteria
- Open to prospective HDR candidiates applying to ECU.
- Applicants must hold (or be in the process of receiving) an offer for a PhD or Integrated PhD at ECU.

How to apply
- Contact the potential HDR Supervisors for your proposed project to determine their suitability, alignment and availability. Ensure the proposed research project is related to Childhood Health, in line with the eligibility criteria above.
- Obtain a confirmation email from your proposed supervisors indicating a willingness to supervise your proposed project. You will require this confirmation email prior to applying
- Submit your application via the ECU Online Scholarship Application Portal. The scholarship application portal will open on 05 May 2026 and close on 31 May 2026.
