ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarships

These scholarships are designed to support postgraduate students of outstanding research promise undertaking a higher degree by research at ECU. The scholarships are offered on the basis of academic merit and research performance. Successful applicants will be awarded either the ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarship or the RTP Stipend Scholarship. These scholarships include tuition fee sponsorship and a stipend of $37,500 per annum paid fortnightly via electronic funds transfer. Other benefits include a relocation allowance for domestic students (where applicable) and partial reimbursement of Overseas Student Health Cover for International students (where applicable). The duration of the scholarship is up to 3 years full-time for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and up to 2 years full-time for Master by Research.

Eligibility guidelines

To be eligible applicants must have met the minimum requirement below:

  • Prospective students must have applied for admission to, or received an offer for, an ECU PhD, Integrated PhD or Master by Research course.*
  • Current ECU students must be enrolled in, or have applied for admission to, the specific HDR course for which they are applying for scholarship support.

*If course admission applications have been submitted prior to the scholarship closing date but not assessed prior to scholarship ranking, applications will be considered. Applications for admission to the course may be held until scholarship applications have been assessed. Course and scholarship offer are likely to be issued together when the scholarship round outcome is announced, and only to applicants who are successful in receiving a scholarship offer.

You are not eligible to apply for these scholarships if any of the below apply:

  • You have been in receipt of an Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) or an Australia Award scholarship within the last two years.
  • If you do not have principal supervisor endorsement to undertake the proposed research project.
  • If your commencement date for the Doctor of Philosophy is after 05/04/2027.
  • If your commencement period for Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated) or Masters by Research is after Semester 1, 2027.
