Edith Cowan University and the Feilman Foundation are pleased to offer a three-year PhD stipend scholarship at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, attached to the Centre for Keyboard Heritage and Performance Research. The project will focus on historically informed performance (HIP) in relation to one or more keyboard instruments. The successful candidate will combine scholarly inquiry with practice-led research, drawing on WAAPA’s exceptional collection of historic instruments, to explore questions of playing practices, style and expressive aesthetics. Projects might engage with archival sources, treatises, and repertory, or revive historical practices such as improvisation in historic styles. Situated within a dynamic and internationally connected research environment, this scholarship offers a distinctive opportunity to advance both artistic and academic expertise, positioning the candidate at the forefront of current debates in HIP and keyboard studies.
