The Pindari Alcohol and Other Drug Recovery Scholarship is a collaboration between ECU and Pindari House supporting a Master of Health Sciences student to explore recovery capital in residents’ treatment experiences through a $37,000 annual stipend. The project will apply the CHIME-D framework — encompassing Connectedness, Hope, Identity, Meaning, Empowerment, and Difficulties — to examine how personal recovery processes are experienced within Pindari House’s long-term residential rehabilitation program for men with substance use disorders. Using qualitative interviews with current residents and graduates, the study will identify which recovery domains the programme supports well and where gaps may exist, with findings used to inform future programme co-design. The all-male residential context also offers a unique opportunity to explore gendered dimensions of recovery that remain underrepresented in the literature.
