The Bendat Family Foundation Equity Scholarships

The Bendat Family Foundation, in partnership with Edith Cowan University (ECU), is proud to offer Equity Scholarships that invest in the next generation of nurses, midwives, teachers and social workers who are committed to making a positive difference in the Western Australian community. Established to increase access to higher education and reduce barriers to study, this scholarship program supports students experiencing social and economic disadvantage, helping them thrive throughout their university journey and reach their full potential. Up to 18 scholarships will be awarded to commencing students. Recipients will receive $4,000 per semester for the duration of their eligible course, for up to four years of study. Students undertaking part-time study will receive payments on a pro rata basis.

Eligibility guidelines

In order to be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be an Australia citizen or Australian Permanent Resident; or
  • be a refugee or the first generation descendant of such a person, who experienced forced migration and may have entered Australia in a number of ways including the below;
    • off-shore approved refugee or humanitarian entrant
    • onshore, community based asylum seeker or refugee or
    • family reunion.
  • be enrolled in an eligible Undergraduate or Postgraduate Degree having commenced in 2027;
  • have and maintain an academic progression status of GREEN;
  • be enrolled and remain enrolled in a minimum of 30 credit points (part-time will be paid pro rata);
  • be experiencing financial hardship or other personal difficulty; and
  • not be in receipt of another scholarship valued at $5000 or over per year.

How to apply

Application is made via the ECU Online Scholarship Application Portal. Access to the Portal is available between application opening and closing dates.

Applicants will be required to provide a personal statement of no more than 500 words responding to the below question.

  • Describe your current financial personal circumstances and how you would benefit from receiving the Scholarship.
  • Demonstrate your drive and commitment to establish a career in your chosen field of study and how you will give back to your community.

Selection Process

Eligible applications will be assessed by a Selection Committee.

Selection will be based on:

  • Content of Personal Statement
  • Responses to questions in the application process
