Student name:

Olasunkanmi David Bamidele (PhD candidate)

Supervisors:

  1. Professor Simon Laws
  2. Dr Tenielle Porter
  3. Dr Emmanuel Adewuyi

Summary of thesis:

The research will comprehensively assess the genetic relationship of AD with inflammatory and autoimmune-related traits for a better understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying AD. Findings will provide opportunities for improved diagnosis, prevention, and/or therapy development efforts for AD. First, a suite of statistical genetic methods, including those for genetic overlap and causality assessment, will be applied in the analysis of world-leading genetic data. Second, identified genetic variants will be validated in well-characterised longitudinal cohorts. Moreover, germ-line models will be employed alongside pharmacogenetics approaches to test relevant medications on genotypes towards improving AD management.
