Cultural Narrative

About the Cultural Narrative strategic framework

The Cultural Narrative strategic framework was developed and endorsed by the university in late 2024.

The purpose and energy of this strategic framework has come from the leadership and authority of Whadjuk Elders in Boorloo, Perth. It has emerged from the development of Life Layers by Dr Richard Walley, initially intended to frame the architecture of the new ECU City Campus. From this work two foundational narratives – Birdya Yok Bidi – or Boss Women Pathway, and the Life Layers have informed the 5 strategic pillars.

The pillars; Ngarda – Subterranean, Kep – Water, Kaata – Hills, Moort Boodja – Ecosystem and Djinda Worlal – Stars and Sky inform opportunities for co-design, partnerships, amplification of exisiting resources and frameworks, student and staff cultural journeys, and the embedding of two-way learning and First Nations values across the entirety of Edith Cowan University.
