2011 Seminar series

ECU’s National Teaching Fellow 2011-12, Australian Government Office for Learning and Teaching, Professor Rudd in collaboration with the ECU Health Simulation Centre hosted a number of seminars over 2011 on topics addressing simulated learning environments. The seminars attracted a number of guests from various disciplines, industry agencies and universities.

Seminar series one

Entitled: ‘Examining the impact of simulated patients on nursing students clinical reasoning,’ the seminar included a tour of ECU’s Health Simulation Centre and facilities followed by a guest presentation by Professor Tracy Levett-Jones from the University of Newcastle. Thirty-three guests attended including Professor Nicholas J. Talley, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Health and Professor of Medicine, The University of Newcastle.

Guest speaker: Professor Tracy Levett-Jones - Deputy Head of School (Teaching and Learning) School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Newcastle.

Seminar series two

Entitled: ‘Global developments in simulation,’ the seminar included a tour of ECU’s Health Simulation Centre and facilities followed by a presentation by Professor Karim Quayumi from the University of British Columbia. Twenty-six guests attended the event including: Mr John Linehan, Senior Course Coordinator, CTEC; Dr Monica Gope, Emergency Department Consultant, Royal Perth Hospital; Mr Murray Giles, A/SDE Continuing Education, Fremantle Hospital and Health Service; Dr Yusuf Mamoojee, Teaching Registrar, Emergency Department, Joondalup Health Campus; and Dr Jim Cooper, Director, Emergency Department, Royal Perth Hospital.

Seminar series three

Entitled: ‘Simulation and Interprofessional Learning’, this seminar included a tour of ECU’s Health Simulation Centre and facilities followed by a guest presentation by Professor Michael Seropian from Oregon Health and Science University. Twenty-three guests attended including: Dr Cameron Burrows, Deputy Director, Emergency Department, Joondalup Health Campus; Dr Yusuf Mamoojee, Teaching Registrar, Emergency Department, Joondalup Health Campus; and Dr Belinda Lowe, Anaesthetist, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
