Teen Narrative Cultures and Adult Content Symposium

Overview

This symposium will explore teen constructions of crossover texts that respond both to teen narrative cultures and materials that might be categorised as adult content. One critical area of inquiry is whether there are gendered dimensions to the consumption of such narratives. For example, it appears that young males are more likely to access visual sexual content more often and at younger ages than their female peers. In contrast, adolescent girls may well be writing or reading explicit sexual fiction based around key fandom communities. Fan fiction writing such as Harry Potter, Justin Bieber and Twilight fandom are some examples.
