ECU–University of Portsmouth (UoP) Joint PhD Scholarship

The ECU–UoP Joint PhD Program is open to prospective domestic PhD candidates across all disciplines. Through the current scholarship scheme, one PhD scholarship will be available each year from each host university for five years, starting in 2026. Candidates will be jointly supervised and have access to the research expertise, infrastructure, and support services of both ECU and UoP. ECU and UoP will each advertise scholarships throughout this program. Applicants should only apply to the scholarship at one institution.

Open to prospective domestic PhD candidates from all disciplines. Under this scheme, one PhD scholarship will be available each year from each host university for five years, starting in 2026.

  • Applicants enrolling with ECU as their home institution should apply to the Scholarship at ECU. ECU’s competitive scholarship round typically opens in September each year.
  • Applicants applying with UoP as their home institution should apply to the scholarship at UoP.

Eligibility Guidelines

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Obtain endorsement from their Principal Supervisor to apply for an advertised research project.
  • Submit an HDR course admission application for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Integrated PhD at ECU.*
  • Ensure their HDR course admission application has been lodged before submitting a scholarship application.
  • Be able to commence their HDR course and scholarship on 05 April 2027.

*Applicants must submit their course admission application by the scholarship application closing date to be considered for a scholarship. Where the admission assessment has not been finalised at the time of scholarship ranking, the application may still be considered. Applications for admission to the course may be held until scholarship applications have been assessed. Course and scholarship offer are likely to be issued together when the scholarship round outcome is announced, and only to applicants who are successful in receiving a scholarship offer.
