The PRiMA Toolkit is designed to help mining workplaces tackle psychosocial risks in a structured, practical and collaborative way. The Toolkit was developed and evaluated by the MARS Centre in collaboration with the University of New South Wales and the WA mining sector. It was informed by an earlier project that evaluated the Psychosocial Hazard Work Redesign Tool (PHReD-T) - a tool designed to aid industry skills, competency and confidence in work redesign.
In the PHReD-T evaluation, two mining companies formed steering groups to trial the tool’s structured four-step process. The evaluation found strong benefits, including fostering cross-functional collaboration, encouraging a preventative approach to psychosocial risk management, and acting as an educational resource.
Building on PHReD-T’s strengths, the PRiMA Toolkit offers a focused, flexible, and user-friendly resource that is tailored specifically to the needs of the WA mining sector. The Toolkit draws on the Code of Practice: Psychosocial hazards at work for fly-in fly-out (FIFO) workers in the resources sector: Work health and safety and transitional codes of practice and the WA Code of Practice for Psychosocial Hazards in the Workplace, and includes writable/interactive fields into which you can make your notes and record your risk assessment and control strategies.
While PRiMA can be used independently, it is most effective when completed in a group setting, such as a Steering Group or Working Group, to ensure diverse perspectives and input from across the organisation or mine site.
