Development of genetic profiles for cognitive change prediction

Student name:

Annie Green (Master of Medical and Health Science by Research)

Supervisors:

  3. Professor Simon Laws

Summary of thesis:

This thesis investigates genetic factors influencing cognitive decline in preclinical Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) to aid early intervention and close research gaps. Current genetic risk profiles require further validation and do not fully explain cognitive decline variability.

The study utilises data from the Australian Imaging Biomarker and Lifestyle (AIBL) study to achieve two aims: (1) validate existing genetic risk profiles within longitudinal ageing cohorts, and (2) develop novel profiles using expanded genetic variant analyses. Identifying genetic determinants of cognitive decline will improve understanding of underlying biological pathways, enabling predictive genetic models for early detection and advancing personalised medicine approaches.
