Applying travel therapy to medical interventions: An investigation of travel-eligible tourists with early- and middle-stage dementia from a travel medicine perspective

Student name:

Fangli Hu (PhD candidate)

Supervisors:

  1. Professor Wei Wang
  2. Dr Jun Wen

Summary of thesis:

Dementia, as a public health issue, seriously reduces the life quality of patients. Tourism engagement has been found to contribute to slower biological ageing, which is an important pathogenesis of dementia. However, exactly how people with dementia participate in tourism is unclear. This project
plans to propose relevant conceptual models, and then use an approach of multidisciplinary methods (e.g., interviews, questionnaires, big data) to conduct an empirical research on the travel behaviours and expectations of dementia patients.
