Summary of thesis:

Self-stigma (SS) is widespread within the mental health community and is associated with negative outcomes in multiple domains: personal, clinical, social, etc. Suboptimal health status (SHS) is an intermediate state between health and disease, characterised by health complaints, general weakness, low energy and is associated with chronic stress. The Narrative Enhancement Cognitive Therapy (NECT) group-based program includes psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, and narrative enhancement to reduce SS and its impact on recovery-related outcomes. Although NECT has demonstrated efficacy in reducing SS in persons diagnosed with mental illness, evidence of its effectiveness in youth populations or improving SHS has not been trialled.
