Summary of thesis:

Preeclampsia (PE), a severe hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, is associated with the impairment of endothelial function. However, the development of effective therapies and appropriate diagnosis has been impeded by the unclear pathogenesis of PE. Adropin is a novel endothelial protective cytokine and may contribute to preventing PE by protecting endothelial function. The present project will investigate the longitudinal changes in serum adropin levels and its associations with the development of PE in a prospective cohort study.
