Edith Cowan University (ECU) has commenced a pay compliance review after pay-related issues were identified at several other Australian universities. Ensuring we are doing the right thing by employees is an absolute priority, which is why we decided to address this at ECU in a complete and proactive way.
We recently completed an initial review of how the University’s 2017 and 2022 Enterprise Agreements were applied from mid-2023 to mid-2024 and it has discovered some underpayments. The issues appear to be process and interpretation errors, not intentional action.
We have launched a comprehensive Employee Pay Review Program (EPR Program) to determine what occurred, who is affected, and to remediate current and former employees where required (including superannuation and interest).
We have self-reported these matters to the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) and will continue to engage with the FWO and the National Tertiary Education Union as this work progresses.
We sincerely apologise to all employees.
Our values of integrity and respect will guide our work, and we assure current and former employees we will be here to listen to you, respond to you, and support you as it progresses.
Your wellbeing will remain our priority as we investigate and communicate about this matter. We are committed to understanding and addressing any individual impacts it may have on you.
We will continue to keep former employees and external stakeholders informed via this webpage and will provide a further update by June 2026.
Information for current ECU employees is available on the ECU intranet.
If you have any questions, please complete the EPR Program contact form. This is the most efficient way of communicating with us at this early stage of the program and will help us effectively capture and share input within the EPR Program team.
