Partnership Definitions

The International Portfolio supports Schools in developing and managing their academic partnerships. The purpose of an academic partnership is to enhance the learning experience of students, the teaching and research experience of academic staff and to advance the internationalisation of education at ECU.

The University undertakes academic partnerships with other education institutions globally through a number of legal arrangements outlined below.

Memorandum of Understanding

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a formal agreement to demonstrate that the parties are entering into a relationship that is likely to result in a collaborative arrangement but is not intended to create a contractual relationship or to be legally binding on the parties.

Articulation agreement

An articulation agreement between institutions facilitates institutional recruitment of international students to ECU and enables ECU students to study at overseas institutions.

Before the establishment of an institutional articulation arrangement, both institutions need to provide each other with the required information on relevant course curriculum and unit outlines. After assessment credit transfer arrangements will be recorded on ECU's Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning.

For more information, see our Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning webpage

Transnational programs

Transnational arrangements are collaborative agreements whereby ECU courses and/or units are offered as an ECU award at an offshore educational institution.

Student Exchange

ECU has partnerships with about 100 institutions in over 30 countries around the world.  These partnerships enable ECU students to study for one or two semesters at an exchange partner institution overseas while continuing to pay their fees at ECU.  Find out more by visiting our Student Exchange page.

Study Abroad

A Study Abroad Programs consists of full fee paying students (whose home universities do not have an exchange agreement with ECU or is unable to offer an exchange place at ECU) studying at ECU for one to two semesters, full-time.

Study abroad students pay a set study abroad tuition fee per semester to ECU, which is subject to annual change.
