Elections of ECU Council

Strategic and Governance Services is responsible for conducting elections for a number of positions on Council. To find out more about a particular election, please consult the information below and click on the appropriate downloads for details.

ECU is committed to ensuring that its decision-making bodies include a diversity of perspectives and viewpoints. In striving to achieve gender diversity at leadership and management levels, suitably qualified people of all genders are encouraged to apply.

In accordance with the TEQSA Provider Threshold Standards, Council members must be able to meet the requirements outlined in the Fit and Proper Person Declaration.

Elections 2026

ELECTION OF TWO ALUMNI TO THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL

Nominations are called for candidates for election to University Council in the positions of “2 persons who are Alumni of the University” for a three-year membership term commencing 1 January 2027 and concluding 31 December 2029.

NOMINATIONS

Term: 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2029


Nominations open: Tuesday, 22 September 2026
Nominations close: 5:00 pm Thursday, 15 October 2026

Should more than two valid nominations be received for the two positions, polling will be conducted via electronic voting from Thursday 29 October to Thursday 12 November 2026.

Alumni who wish to nominate or vote in this election must be entered on the University’s Register of Alumni https://www.ecu.edu.au/alumni/getting-involved/register-of-alumni The deadlines for registering are as follows:

  • To nominate as a candidate, you must register by 5.00pm on Thursday 15 October 2026
  • To vote in the election, you must register by 5.00pm on Thursday 22 October 2026

To submit a nomination, please review the nomination information and complete the nomination form available in the Downloads section. Please submit your nomination form by emailing universitygovernance@ecu.edu.au or hand delivering to the University Governance team by 5:00 pm Thursday, 15 October 2026.

OUTCOME OF ELECTION-ENROLLED STUDENTS

ONE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT TO THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL
Edith Cowan University Act 1984

Congratulations to Hasmita Bhatia who has been declared elected to the University Council as an undergraduate student member under section 9(1)(f)(i) of the Edith Cowan University Act 1984.

Hasmita’s term of office on the University Council commences on 20 September 2026 and concludes on 19 September 2027.

ONE POSTRGRADUATE STUDENT TO THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL

Congratulations to Lucas Lutzenkirchen who has been declared elected to the University Council as a postgraduate student member under section 9(1)(f)(ii) of the Edith Cowan University Act 1984.

Lucas’ term of office on the University Council commences on 20 September 2026 and concludes on 19 September 2027.
