Basic Research on Human Motor Function

The Centre for Human Performance theme of Basic Research on Human Motor Function focuses on how the human neuromuscular system works and is affected by different conditions and interventions. Our work seeks to improve understanding of the mechanisms underpinning motor function and its changes in health and disease. Our ultimate aim is to identify ways to improve human motor performance in populations as diverse as athletes and patients with motor impairment. Our current research addresses questions about how skeletal muscles produce the forces required for movement, and how the nervous system controls these muscles.

Professor Janet Taylor is the theme lead for Basic Research on Human Motor Function in the Centre for Human Performance.
