Dr Cassio Ruas
The Centre for Precision Health welcomes Dr Cassio Ruas to the CPH Seminar Series. Dr Ruas is a Research Fellow at the Brazilian Institute of Neuroscience and Neurotechnology and Queensland University of Technology, and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Edith Cowan University.
The presentation will highlight research using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to investigate the neurophysiological effects of eccentric exercise, followed by its broader applications for assessing corticospinal excitability, inhibition, fatigue, muscle damage, and exercise adaptations. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is then explored as a neuromodulation strategy to enhance neuroplasticity and motor recovery in individuals with neurological conditions. Together, these approaches demonstrate the potential of promising neurophysiological techniques to advance understanding of neuromuscular mechanisms underlying exercise and support their translation into clinical rehabilitation practice.
