Roads Taken

11 February - 17 April 2026

Roads Taken reflects upon the journey of the ECU Art Collection, shaped over time through the formation of multiple collections and ECU's continuing evolution.

This inaugural exhibition draws upon Birdiya Yok Bidi, one of the foundational frameworks of ECU's Cultural Narrative. Birdiya Yok Bidi, translated as "boss woman path," embodies the stories of two women who shaped not only the cultural landscape of Western Australia but also ECU's history: Yoreel Fanny Balbuk and Edith Dircksey Cowan. These pivotal figures stood up for the rights of women and the rights of the disadvantaged within their communities, inspiring meaningful change and championing social and cultural justice.

This celebration of strength and resilience is showcased through the small snapshot of selected works and the legacy of women artists across within the ECU Art Collection.
