The Lived Experience of Ageing in Bangladesh

This ongoing research seeks to understand the lived experiences of ageing in Bangladesh to gain insights into how sociocultural environments influence the experiences and perceptions of older adults in Bangladesh. The research applies a grounded approach and thus far engaged about 40 older adults aged 60 and over along with participants occupying different roles such as healthcare providers, policymakers, general physicians, geriatric doctors, psychologists and researchers in Bangladesh. This holistic approach to data collection will see the development of a grounded theory of ageing in Bangladesh. The research question of the study is what is the lived aging experience of ageing in Bangladesh for older adults aged 60 years and older? We focus on exploring how personal, socio-cultural, geographic location, and health influence aging experiences in Bangladesh.
