Dr Jyai Allen is a part-time research-focused Adjunct Midwifery Professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Her research program is focused on health engagement and models of care for vulnerable groups and embedding midwifery innovations to optimise women's outcomes and experiences in maternity care.
Jyai is a direct-entry midwife who has worked in various clinical, policy, and academic roles through her >20-year midwifery career. She has worked primarily in midwifery models of care with vulnerable populations, as well as birth centres and a midwifery-led unit. Jyai has held previous academic positions at universities including Associate Professor of Translational Research and Senior Lecturer in Midwifery.
Jyai is committed to delivering impactful research, in collaboration maternity consumers and health service partners, to explore challenges, implement changes, and evaluate outcomes to optimise women’s outcomes and experiences.
Jyai has expertise in systematic reviews, randomised trials, cohort studies, mixed methods evaluation; and critical qualitative methodologies including Critical Ethnography and Participatory Action Research
