Agatha (Aggie) is a proud Murr/Yarabah woman from the Torres Strait Islands and Yarahbah. Yarrabah, traditionally Yagaljida in the Yidin language spoken by the indigenous Yidinji people, is a coastal town and locality in the Aboriginal Shire of Yarrabah, Queensland. It is an Aboriginal community about 53 kilometres by road from Cairns on Cape Grafton.
Aggie is a Lecturer (Indigenous Knowledges) in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. An Edith Cowan University (ECU) alumna, she completed her Bachelor of Science (Nursing) in January 2015 as a mature-age student, before going on to earn a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health and, in 2026, her PhD.
Agatha is an active member of the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives (CATSINaM), the Network of Women Students Australia (NOWSA) and a member for Specialist Aboriginal Mental Health Service (SAMHS). Aggie was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Student Award for Reconciliation in 2017. In her role of Student Ambassador, Aggie supports and guides our Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students throughout their journey at ECU.
