Dr Sarah Hay is a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery at Edith Cowan University, where she contributes to teaching, research, curriculum development and the supervision of higher degree research students. She leads the development of the Bachelor of Science (Midwifery) and undertakes research focused on maternal and family wellbeing, midwifery workforce wellbeing and the advancement of evidence-informed midwifery practice.

Dr Hay is currently leading the curriculum development of ECU's new Bachelor of Science (Midwifery), scheduled to commence in 2028.

Background

Dr Sarah Hay is an experienced midwife, educator and researcher with 25 years of experience across clinical practice, higher education and professional education.

Prior to joining Edith Cowan University in 2025, she held several academic leadership positions in Victoria and Western Australia. She also has extensive clinical experience across maternity care settings.

In addition, Dr Hay has contributed to midwifery professional education for more than 15 years as a Fetal Surveillance Education Program (FSEP) educator, supporting the development of clinicians' knowledge and skills in fetal surveillance and safe maternity care.
She also provides independent medico-legal expert opinions relating to midwifery practice and standards of care, drawing on her extensive clinical experience and knowledge of contemporary professional standards.
