Lisa Whitehead is a Professor of Nursing Research within the School of Nursing and Midwifery and her key roles include:
Lisa’s research experience over the last 30 years has centred on improving health outcomes for people living with chronic conditions, the development and implementation of self-management interventions, and working with families to support the management of chronic conditions. Engagement with clinicians and conducting research in real-world settings underpin all of her research activities, with the aim of implementing enduring evidence-based change in practice.
A registered nurse and chartered psychologist, Lisa brings her background in nursing, psychology and medical sociology to her research program which include qualitative studies, clinical trials and practice change through implementation science.
In her role as Professor of Nursing Research at Edith Cowan University (ECU), Western Australia, Lisa co-leads the research group “Prevention and Management of Chronic Disease in Children and Adults”. Lisa is an Honorary Professor of Research at the University of Otago, New Zealand and the University of Jordan, Amman.
Lisa is the Editor in Chief of Collegian, the official journal of the Australian College of Nursing and is the founder and director of the JBI Centre for Evidence Informed Nursing and Midwifery.
Previous positions include Associate Dean – Research within the ECU School of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as Head of Department of Nursing, University of Otago and Director of the Strategy to Advance Research (STAR) in Nursing and Allied Health, a national initiative funded by the New Zealand Government.
Lisa has been awarded over $8M in research funding during her career and supervised over 30 higher degree by research students to completion.
Lisa is an active member of the International Family Nursing Association, currently co-chair of the Awards Committee.
