Karina is responsible for development and delivery of an Outreach and Engagement program to raise awareness of, and aspirations towards future study and careers in, Computing and Security sciences.

Background

Karina is a Strategic Science Communicator who promotes, advocates for and drives audience connection with science and innovation through the strategic design, development and delivery of impactful STEM outreach initiatives, communication strategies and education resources in collaboration with academia and industry. This includes her strategic leadership of large-scale communication programs within research, innovation and education ecosystems. Karina led the national Education, Training and Outreach program of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology (PEB) at The University of Western Australia from 2014 to 2021. In 2016 she founded the Virtual Plant Cell (VPC), a ground-breaking immersive education initiative with a large global reach. In 2021 she founded and established STEM XR, an initiative to connect secondary teachers and students with real world science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) experiences through virtual reality in order to authenticate curriculum and embed relevance into science education.
