A valued friend, former staff member, and alumnus of Edith Cowan University, Dr Churchouse, has confirmed a generous bequest of $300,000 to assist male students enrolled in an undergraduate degree within ECU's School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Dr Churchouse completed a Diploma in Health Science in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at ECU before entering the workforce as a Registered Nurse. In 1995 he returned to study at ECU, undertaking a PhD within the School’s Research Organisational Unit: International, Cultural and Community Studies. Following the conferral of his PhD in 1999, Dr Churchouse worked for ECU from 2010 in the School of Nursing and Midwifery as the International Nursing Clinical Coordinator, and was instrumental in setting up the International program, particularly within the Philippines.

His contribution to ECU has been, and continues to be, truly remarkable. Through the establishment of a scholarship in perpetuity, Dr Churchouse will leave an ongoing legacy to support male students completing an undergraduate degree within the School of Nursing and Midwifery at ECU.

Nurses play a vital and indispensable role in the healthcare system of Australia, contributing significantly to the well-being of patients and the overall functioning of our healthcare sector. The diverse responsibilities held, from primary patient care to advocacy and health promotion, are integral in maintaining a robust healthcare system. Historically, nursing has been a profession primarily dominated by women, however, increased awareness of diversity and inclusion is contributing to a diversified workforce. Dr Churchouse is passionate about increasing the number of registered male nursing providers within Australia.

Philanthropy plays a vital role in ensuring the future of ECU, helping us to build the leaders of tomorrow. By remembering ECU his will, Dr Churchouse has provided a gift with a lasting legacy that will live on, providing long-term benefits for future generations.

If you are interested in leaving a gift to ECU in your will, please contact our friendly team. We would be delighted to work with you to structure your legacy in the way that is most meaningful to you.
