Overview of thesis

The current aim of my PhD project is to investigate the impacts of disturbance on freshwater macroinvertebrates with a focus on the role of metapopulation processes in recolonisation for the invertebrates of the Swan Coastal Plain (SCP). Along with traditional invertebrate and water quality surveys of variety of rivers and wetlands, eDNA will be used to complement these surveys. In addition, to better understand the genetics of the meta-populations of some invertebrates SCP, DNA extraction and sequencing is planned for a subset of taxa with different dispersal traits will be taken. It is hoped that the outcomes of this study will offer insight for the management of water resources in the context of disturbance.
