Dr Briggs has substantial undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience in International Relations, Security and Strategic Studies. He has many years of professional experience in the public and private sectors, in defence, strategy and intelligence. In government, he’s worked for State Members of Parliament and two Cabinet Ministers, Department of the Premier & Cabinet (WA), Department of the Prime Minister & Cabinet, and Department of Health & Ageing (Pandemic Preparedness). Teaching experience first included being a sessional tutor in politics and sociology (UWA and Curtin University), then during 1998-2007, as a sessional tutor with the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme, Centre for Aboriginal Studies, Curtin University. While in senior roles in government, he was a part-time lecturer before articulating that into a full-time position as a Clinical Professional Fellow, and later as Senior Lecturer and Course Coordinator with the Graduate Program in International Relations and National Security, Curtin University. More recently, he was a Strategic Intelligence Manager for a risk consultancy, while an Adjunct Senior Fellow at Curtin and later, as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at ECU.
