A sellout book launch is a rare thing in any community but this was the case for “The Wounded Sinner” by South West PhD alumni, Dr Gus Henderson. The novel, published by Magabala Books, was officially launched on 2nd August at the ECU CBD Learning Hub in Bunbury by Dr Donna Mazza, who supervised the work in its original form, as a doctoral thesis in writing.

Editor Margaret Whiskin from Magabala books spoke on behalf of Broome-based publisher Rachel bin Salleh about the journey the novel took to publication and the captivated audience was treated to a reading by the author.

Dr Henderson has been ill for the past year but was able to read from his work and spoke at length about his journey as a doctoral student and the novel’s editorial process.

Later, he signed books with a specially made stamp. Local booksellers were in attendance but sold out of copies of the work, which is now in its second print run.

“The Wounded Sinner” is the story of a family negotiating elder care, of discovering identity and bringing up children in the Goldfields town of Leonora and can be purchased from the publisher Magabala Books.
