Assessing the utility of real-time virtual character puppetry for conducting interviews

Recent advances in technology now afford the possibility for the motion capture and broadcasting of a person onto a virtual character such that the character acts like a puppet of the human controller. That is, the virtual character can be controlled by the human controller and broadcasted to others in real-time. The aim of this research is to examine the utility of high-fidelity virtual puppet avatars for interviewing human subjects. This research has the potential for future broad application across contexts where interviews are carried out, such as counselling, recruitment, criminal investigation, and dating.
