Professor Eleanor Gates-Stuart is an Honorary Professor at the School of Arts & Humanities.


Background

Professor Eleanor Gates-Stuart is an international interdisciplinary artist with a special research focus on science, art and technology.

Eleanor has been awarded a PhD in Science Communication (Science & Art) at the Australian National Centre Public Awareness of Science at the ANU, in association with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

Eleanor’s experience includes a variety of professorial roles, (Australia, Taiwan, US), particularly in research and teaching. This is in relation to the sciences, technology, communication and arts, working in partnership with major research organisations, museums, education, business and government.

Eleanor’s collaborative science, art, research projects and commissions have received international and national support. Her research includes the multi-perspective, understanding of concepts looking through simple objects, artefacts, with analysis of its deeper meaning in data and visual research within interactive exhibits. Her scope of creativity and production is extensive and constantly questioning. Engaging the audience in new and innovative ways through her artistic practice.

  • Professor of Arts, School of Social Work and the Arts, Charles Sturt University (CSU) (2021 - Presently Adjunct).
  • Co-Founder: CSU eXtended Reality Collaborative / Centre (XRC) (2019-2021). Now part of the CSU Agrisciences Research and Business Park - AGRIPARK.

Research Areas and Interests

  • Digital Storytelling: VR, AR, mixed reality, interactive installations (media histories and cultural heritage).
  • Digital Twins: Artefacts and virtual objects - Visualising data (Innovative materials and new technologies).
  • Bioarts: Interdisciplinary Practice - Bioinformatics, Codes and Pattern (human identity).
  • Communication and Innovation: Media production, content narrative, performance and immersive environments.
