Overview of thesis

I’m in the first year of my PhD focussing on using social media sustainability communications to mitigate stakeholder "Outrage and Cancel Cultures" within the community.

As society continues to move into a digital era, it is becoming increasingly evident that environmentally high impact brands need to look beyond regulatory sustainability reporting to secure society's approval, support, and social licence to operate.

My research explores the feasibility and key implications of using social media for sustainability reporting when communicating a project footprint, social impact, or crisis management within the Western Australia mining, civil and resource sectors.

Further research is needed to fully understand the key attributes of stakeholder theory that organisations use to build relationships with stakeholders. As such, my research aims to support the relevance of stakeholder theory and stakeholder involvement in an organisation's sustainability reporting and accountability communications.
