Marine research is undertaken by members of the Centre for Marine Ecosystems Research, which uses applied and fundamental research to improve our understanding of the functioning, threats and solutions in coastal marine ecosystems. Research falls under the five core key themes: (1) habitat connectivity & trophic interactions; (2) human impacts; (3) blue carbon & paleo reconstruction; (4) conservation and fisheries biology; (5) marine radioactivity and tracers. In line with the Centre’s values and objectives, projects largely function across these themes and through collaborations with research institutes and industry while providing strong postgraduate and postdoctoral programmes to progress marine ecology research into the future.
