Planning and Reporting on Indigenous Matters

Like all public universities, ECU receives funding from the Commonwealth Government for important activities that support the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in higher education and in employment with our university.

The funding helps to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with: scholarships, tuition support and other support and pastoral care. More information about this can be found in the Guide for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students.

There are conditions attached to this funding, which ECU satisfies by:

  • having the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Equity and Indigenous) and the ECU Indigenous Consultative Committee involved in decisions about how the funding is spent
  • publishing an “Indigenous Workforce Strategy” – this is embedded in our ECU Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy and Action Plan, 2016-2018
  • making sure students and staff know where to go for advice and to provide feedback. For further information visit the Complaints website
