ECU values individual differences and diversity.
We’re proud of the wide cultural diversity of people who’ve chosen to study and work here, in a learning environment that includes both school leavers and mature age students.
ECU is committed to a welcoming and inclusive learning and working environment, offering a wide range of activities to support and advance equality. This includes ensuring people of all genders feel enabled, and are supported, to pursue careers in their chosen fields. We are striving to remove barriers to gender equity by making improvements to our practices and organisational culture, and in particular to attract and retain those who have chosen a pathway in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM).
ECU is proud to be one of 15 institutions in the country to have achieved Bronze Award status as participants in the first Pilot of the Athena SWAN Charter in Australia hosted by the Science in Australia Gender Equity initiative (SAGE). Originating in the UK, this initiative is an accreditation and improvement program for higher education and research organisations, successful in transforming gender equity action to improve the promotion and retention of women and gender diverse groups within STEMM.
