Step 4: Prepare your supporting documentation

You will need to prepare the following documentation to submit with your online HDR course application:

  • A 2-page research proposal for your proposed research project (300-word abstract is optional), prepared in collaboration with your proposed supervisor.
  • Email from your nominated Principal Supervisor indicating their willingness to supervise, if accepted into the course (if relevant).
  • Information about your relevant work and academic history (CV).
  • Qualification transcripts, including units studied, your grades and a grading scale.
  • Documentation of your research experience, including publications, research grants and active roles in research projects.
  • Evidence of your capability to undertake a research project.
  • Some Schools or courses have additional requirements, such as auditions, portfolio of works, pre-arrangement of supervision.
  • Evidence of English language competency, meeting the requirements of your desired course. More information on demonstrating English language competency is available here. Note that there are course-specific requirements at the bottom of the page.
  • Documents in a language other than English must be translated by an accredited translator before submission.

Remember that you should have already discussed and negotiated agreement on your research project and proposal with your proposed supervisor (see Step 2).

Specific scholarship schemes or research programs may require additional documentation, which may be requested after initial application. Please visit School sites for further information.
