Biography
Associate Professor Joshua N. Aston has served as the former Dean (SW) and Assistant Professor of Law at Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. Additionally, he was also the Officer on Special Duty to the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
He obtained his PhD from Symbiosis International University, India and Masters in International Criminal Law from University of Sussex, United Kingdom.
He has presented papers and delivered keynote addresses at various international and national conferences and seminars. He participated in the Asia - Pacific Law Deans Forum organized by the International Association of Law Schools and the Chinese University of Hong Kong at Sha Tin, Hong Kong in 2016.
His areas of interests are International Criminal Law, International Human Rights Law and Law of Contracts to name a few. He is the author of the acclaimed text ‘Trafficking of Women and Children, Article 7 of the Rome Statute’. He has also authored books on ‘Contract Law for Managers’ and ‘Acing Internships’ to name a few.
His educational background in the area of International Criminal Law has given him a broad base from which he branches into specific areas within the International Criminal Law by analysing the impact of actions of States at the National level and how this impacts in the International sphere. His focus has remained however on human rights violation, which is very topical for modern civil society. This interest has spurred him to work on Modern Slavery issues where he is publishing profoundly. Through his work in the areas of human rights and international criminal law, he is continuously challenging the status quo and his academic writing is compelling and posits the need to change situations for a better and humane world.
He is a member of various academic committees and bodies at the University as well as other Universities and Institutes where he actively participates and advises on various academic and legal issues.
