The ECU Tax Clinic

Welcome to the ECU Tax Clinic

The ECU Tax Clinic (ECUTC) aims to assist unrepresented taxpayers in meeting or complying with their taxation affairs.

The ECUTC is a friendly, student-run clinic where you will receive advice from Edith Cowan University taxation students under the supervision of experienced tax practitioners. The clinic operates from Perth and Carnarvon.

A Government Funded Initiative supported by the Shire of Carnarvon

The ECU Tax Clinic is supported by the Australian Government and the Shire of Carnarvon. It is part of the national tax clinic government funded initiative that operates independently from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

The ECU Tax Clinic acknowledges and appreciates the Shire of Carnarvon’s support in approving a fee waiver for the hire of the Carnarvon Library Meeting Room for the operation of the ECU Tax Clinic in Carnarvon.

Services Available – Joondalup and Carnarvon

We may be able to assist you if you meet the eligibility criteria below:

  • You are currently unrepresented (do not have a tax agent)
  • You are an Australian citizen or permanent resident (students are considered residents for Tax purposes)
  • You need help with your tax affairs providing it’s for returns between 2014/15 and 2022

What we may be able to help you with

How to apply for:

  • Taxfile number
  • ABN
  • GST
  • Remission of penalties

Completing:

  • Your current and prior year’s tax returns through MyGov

Assistance with:

  • Work-related tax deductions
  • Negotiating a Payment Plan for the ATO tax debt

Preparation/lodgement of:

  • Individual Tax Return under registered tax agent portal

Applying for assistance

The clinic is open Tuesdays from 9.30am to 4pm. Video appointments available.
