Professor Wei Ni

Professor Wei Ni is the Associate Dean (Research) in the School of Engineering, ECU. He is also a Conjoint Professor at the University of New South Wales, an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney, and an Honorary Professor at Macquarie University. He was a Senior Researcher at Nokia from January 2008 to March 2009, and a Deputy Project Manager at Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs from January 2005 to December 2007. From March 2009 to September 2025, he was with CSIRO, where he held various research leadership roles, including Senior Principal Research Scientist, Group Leader, and Project leader.

Professor Ni’s research interest is connected and trusted intelligent systems and techniques for the integrity, security, and efficiency of systems, e.g., communication systems, smart grids, the Internet of Things, and data. He has coauthored three books, eleven book chapters, over 500 refereed journal and conference papers, and contributed to the industry with successful launch of an Alcatel-Lucent venture, over 20 patents and 10 accepted IEEE standard proposals.

Professor Ni serves as an Editor for IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS since 2018, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON VEHICULAR TECHNOLOGY since 2022, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INFORMATION FORENSICS AND SECURITY since 2024, IEEE COMMUNICATIONS SURVEYS AND TUTORIALS since 2024, and IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON NETWORK SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING since 2025. He served as Secretary, Vice-Chair, and Chair of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society NSW Chapter from 2015 to 2022 and received 2021 Vehicular Technology Society Chapter of Year Award. He is a Fellow of IEEE.
