Ms Shani Watts

Shani is a Senior Lecturer in the Bachelor of Preclinical Foundations of Imaging Science/Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography programs.  She is an accredicated Medical Sonographer with extensive clinical and academic experience.

  • SON2103:  Renal and Pelvic Ultrasound
  • SON2201:  Upper Abdominal Ultrasound

Background

Shani has held clinical roles in both private and public healthcare settings and continues to work part-time at BreastScreen WA’s Assessment Centre. She previously served as a Senior Lecturer at CQUniversity, where she was one of the foundation staff members responsible for developing the new undergraduate program in medical sonography.

With a strong background in education, Shani has held teaching, management, and curriculum leadership positions, including serving as a School Principal and working in the Performance Measurement Branch for Education Queensland.

Research areas and interests

Shani is completing her PhD at the University of Western Australia, focusing on improving health outcomes for women affected by family, domestic and sexual violence. Her research aims to identify barriers to cancer screening participation and co-design trauma-informed medical pathways that support healing and recovery.

Outside of academia, Shani has a strong interest in aviation and fitness. She holds a Private Pilot Licence, is a Certified Personal Trainer, and has completed two Ironman 70.3 triathlon events.
