Dr Catherine Bondonno is a Senior Research Fellow in the Nutrition & Health Innovation Research Institute (NHIRI), Edith Cowan University, Australia and the Emeritus Professor Lawrie Beilin AO Research Fellow of the Royal Perth Hospital Research Foundation, Australia. She is co-lead of the Discovery and Excellence Theme and Chair of the Professional Development Committee for NHIRI.

Her research program is focused on identifying dietary strategies to achieve and maintain cardiovascular and cognitive health. To date, her research has concentrated on the cardiovascular and cognitive benefits of dietary nitrate (from vegetables) and flavonoids (from fruit). She has developed a substantial body of evidence that dietary nitrate and flavonoids improves vascular health through effects on nitric oxide. Catherine’s expertise includes clinical trials, nutritional epidemiology, and development of food bioactive composition datasets.

Catherine is a Registered Nutritionist (Aus), is currently chair of the Perth Regional Group of the Nutrition Society of Australia, and committee member of the Australian Academy of Science, National Committee of Nutrition. She is Associate Editor for Food & Function and Co-editor for the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
