Facilities and Infrastructure

The School of Science's Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CAIML) is supported by specialised facilities and infrastructure that enable cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, intelligent systems, and data-driven technologies.

Our facilities provide researchers, students, and industry partners with access to advanced computing resources, engineering capabilities, and integrated technologies that support the development, testing, and deployment of innovative AI solutions.

Facilities

High Power Computing Facility

CAIML 's High Power Computing (HPC) Facility provides access to high-performance computational resources that support the development and training of complex machine learning models. These include:

  • GPUs and e-GPUs connected to individual research workstations
  • Centralised computing systems for large-scale processing

These resources enable researchers to train sophisticated and computationally intensive models, including deep learning architectures such as transformer-based systems.

Infrastructure

Integrated Research Technologies
CAIML supports a broad range of computational platforms alongside sensing, actuation, and intelligent system technologies.
This integrated environment enables researchers to design, test, and deploy AI-driven solutions across diverse application areas, supporting both fundamental research and real-world impact.

Engineering and Prototyping Capability
CAIML's in-house mechanical and electronic workshop supports the design, development, and manufacture of specialised research systems and prototypes.
This capability enables:

  • Development of bespoke hardware solutions
  • Integration of sensing, actuation, and AI systems
  • Rapid prototyping for experimental research

Continuous Improvement
Facilities and equipment are reviewed and updated annually to ensure researchers have access to current technologies and infrastructure.
