Professor Colm Harmon.
Professor Colm Harmon commenced as Provost and Vice President of Edith Cowan University in December 2025.
As Provost, Professor Harmon leads the strategic oversight of ECU's Schools and plays a central role in guiding the University's academic mission. He also holds the title of Professor of Economic Policy in recognition of his international research standing.
Prior to joining ECU, Professor Harmon was Vice Principal and Professor of Applied Economics at University of Edinburgh. This followed from his time as Professor and Vice Provost at the University of Sydney, and Professor of Economics at University College Dublin. He has held visiting appointments at Princeton University, University College London, Australian National University, University of Chicago, and the University of Warwick. He received his BA and MA in Economics from University College Dublin, and his PhD from the University of Keele in 1997 and has been a Member of the Academia Europea since 2023.
Recognised internationally as one of the most cited researchers in the economics of education, he has published widely in economics and related fields such as health policy and statistics in journals such as the American Economic Review, Economic Journal, Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society and Health Economics. He served as co-Editor of the Economics of Education Review until 2025. He has contributed to major policy debates in Ireland, the UK, Australia and with groups such as the OECD.
